Small Steps, Big Change: How to Take Action When You Don’t Feel Ready?

“Keep going. Every attempt - no matter how small - creates new neural pathways. Over time, taking action becomes easier, and confidence starts to grow.”

“Take Action Anyway. Waiting for the “perfect” moment? That’s the surest way to never start. Be willing to try, fail, and try again - because that’s how real success works.”

“Start Small. Dr. James Clear (Atomic Habits) recommends the 2-minute rule: Just start with a tiny step. Momentum follows action.”

“Take small, brave steps. As previously advised by Dr. James Clear (Atomic Habits), start with tiny, manageable actions. Facing smaller fears first builds confidence for larger challenges. If you fear public speaking, speak briefly in a small meeting or record a short video for friends. Each small success builds courage and confidence.”

“Align Tasks with Personal Values. When your actions reflect your deepest values, your inner rebel calms down, replaced by authentic motivation.”

These are five extracts from my series of posts on procrastination. What's the common thread? Action.

🧠 Neuroscience shows that our brain needs the right level of challenge to stay engaged. If a task feels too easy, we get bored or dismiss it as irrelevant. If it feels too hard — beyond our current skills or resources (like time, energy, or support) — our brain, instead of focusing on doing the task, switches to... avoiding it.

So what to do?

-> Adjust the task to the right level. Take a step back and choose something smaller, simpler — something that feels doable now, even if it only takes a moment.

-> And if the problem is a lack of skills? Good news: the vast majority of skills can be learned in no more than 5 years.

Because the only thing that’s truly impossible… is licking your own elbow 😉 (or so a certain psychologist claimed — I tried, and couldn’t do it 🙃 )

In the meantime, good luck with your actions 💪 !

P.S. As promised — the full series of posts, along with the free test to help you uncover the emotional root of your procrastination, is now available. You’ll find everything on my website 🤗
